Two of Night City’s quietest side stories live behind the same door. Get the pet iguana and adopt Nibbles the cat, and both boil down to the same gate: finish “Playing for Time” mission Act 2’s opening conversation with Goro Takemura at Tom’s Diner. Cross that threshold and Night City opens up, along with a tray in your apartment and a bowl by the large dumpster around the corner outside it. Everything after that is a waiting game. Here’s exactly what unlocks when, and what it takes to get both pets home.

The Trigger — Completing “Playing for Time”
“Playing for Time” is the main job that follows “The Heist” and the Johnny Silverhand flashback interlude “Love Like Fire.” V wakes up in a Badlands landfill after Yorinobu Arasaka’s coup at Konpeki Plaza, gets dragged out by Dexter DeShawn – all gold, chrome, and cigar smoke himself – under the orders of Takemura… who then summarily executes the legendary night city fixer with his own Plan B handgun.
Once V is patched up at Viktor’s Clinic, Takemura calls and asks for a meet at Tom’s Diner, a short walk south of V’s apartment in Megabuilding H10. Sitting down with him completes the job. He lays out his plan: prove Yorinobu murdered his father, Saburo Arasaka, with V as the witness, and use that leverage to get Arasaka’s help removing the Relic chip from V’s head. He gives V two leads to chase, Evelyn Parker and Anders Hellman, while he pursues a contact of his own inside Arasaka, his former protege, named Sandaya Oda. Once Takemura walks off, Johnny appears and pushes V to see Rogue Amendiares instead, setting up the tension between the corporate route and the Night City underworld that defines the rest of Act 2 – so there is lots of stuff flying after this mission, and the game really opens up.
Mechanically, this conversation is the switch that flips Night City from a linear prologue into an open world. Side jobs, gigs, and both pet unlocks all sit behind it. Everything below assumes it’s done.
How to Get the Pet Iguana
Where to find the iguana egg in konpeki plaza?
The egg itself comes earlier, during “The Heist” at the end of Act 1. Inside Yorinobu Arasaka’s penthouse at Konpeki Plaza, head to the first floor and look for the tree trunk near his adult iguana. The egg sits tucked behind it, loose, but closer to the entry door on the table than the adult iguana. Grab it and it sits in inventory with no obvious use until much later.
Can you still get the iguana egg if you missed it during the heist mission?
Missed it during the heist? It’s recoverable, not permanently gone. Players have found ways back into Konpeki Plaza later in the playthrough using parkour and mobility routes, though it takes some doing and isn’t officially signposted by the game. On PC, a console command through Cyber Engine Tweaks (Game.AddToInventory(“Items.q005_iguana_egg”)) is the reliable fallback if the physical route proves too tedious. On Xbox, I’ve used the parkour method in the past to get back in but that was before recent patches…

How do you get the iguana bowl and tray to appear?
Even with the egg in hand, there’s nowhere to put it until “Playing for Time” is complete. The bowl only spawns in V’s apartment afterward, on the long side table next to the lounge. Legacy PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game reportedly never got the bowl added at all, so console players on older hardware may want to check which version they’re running before chasing this one down.

When does the iguana egg hatch and how do you speed it up?
Once the egg is in the bowl, the wait is real: roughly 90 in-game days. Player reports vary between 50 and 90-plus days depending on how time is passed, but in-game time is the only thing that counts. Leaving the console idle in the real world does nothing. Sleeping in the apartment repeatedly or fast-traveling around Night City burns through in-game days far faster than playing in real time.
When it finally hatches, the pet iguana appears in the bowl’s spot. Petting it triggers a Johnny Silverhand cameo, and he’ll comment on it again on repeat visits.
How to Adopt Nibbles the Cat
Nibble’s data shard or feeding bowl aren’t appearing?
Nibbles lives in the corridor around the corner outside V’s original H10 apartment. Exit the apartment, turn down the hallway, and look for a dumpster with a small bowl sitting in front of it. A data shard nearby, titled “Feed Teh Cat,” explains what to do: fill the bowl and wait. If it’s not there, it’s because it won’t appear until “Playing for Time” is completed.
Where to buy cat food for Nibbles?
Cat food shows up at general food vendors around Night City, and Kabuki Market in Watson is the spot most consistently cited for finding it. If a vendor doesn’t have it in stock, walking away and waiting roughly 24 hours resets their inventory. It also turns up as loot in a few fixed locations, including near the Arasaka Industrial Park fast travel point and occasionally on corpses.

How do you adopt Nibbles the cat?
Interact with the bowl to leave the food, then give it time. Somewhere between 12 and 36 hours of in-game time is enough, and sleeping in the apartment is the fastest way to burn through it. Return to the bowl afterward and Nibbles will be there eating. Interact again to adopt her, and she’ll relocate to a bed or laundry basket near V’s sleeping area. No ongoing feeding required after that. She’s part of the apartment for good, and available in photo mode from then on.

Iguana Egg and Nibbles teh Cat Cyberpunk 2077 FAQ
Why won’t my iguana egg hatch?
It needs roughly 90 days of in-game time to pass after being placed in the bowl. Real-world idle time doesn’t count. Sleeping or fast-traveling repeatedly is the quickest way to push it forward.
Why can’t I place the iguana egg in the bowl?
The bowl doesn’t exist until “Playing for Time” is complete. If the mission isn’t done yet, there’s nowhere to put the egg regardless of whether it’s in inventory.
Can you still get the iguana egg if you missed it?
Yes. Konpeki Plaza is reachable again later in the playthrough through some extra effort, or via a console command on PC if a physical route proves too unreliable.
Do you have to keep feeding Nibbles?
No. Once she’s adopted, she’s self-sufficient and stays in the apartment permanently.
Can Nibbles or the iguana move to a different apartment?
No. Both are tied to V’s original H10 apartment in Little China, Watson, and don’t transfer to other apartments purchased later in the game.
Is Nibbles a boy or a girl?
In-game text and some DLC descriptions refer to Nibbles as “he,” but the quest director has confirmed she’s female.
