When I discussed us rolling over the 3.5 million mark for Google Photo Views I believed we would reach 4 million views on the 25th October based on trajectory. We’ve been rocking a lot of photos but I have done less reviews due to time constraints with end-of-year busy-ness. We’ve passed that mark yesterday, 29th October, with 4,027,454 views! (from 918 photos).
I hit Japan on Nov 12 for 3 busy weeks, so I suspect we may surpass 5 million views before I even return, and after that I usually do a photo and review dump, which will boost further. I still suspect 7 million by year end is doable; Let’s make a deal – if I get to 7 million before the year is out, I’ll divulge all my tips ‘n’ tricks to help you do the same … if I don’t, then maybe I am not as good as I think I am at this, and I should refrain from sharing hahaha. Sounds fair?
I’ve taken the below photo from the perspective of most viewed photos and I did this intentionally as I wanted to discuss the top 6 photo thumbnails, and why I believe these photos are performing so well (all these photos have greater than 100K views).
Photo 1 – Sumibi-yakitori Enya Namba (351,893 views in 9 months): This is an exterior shot, with an attractive dutch tilt of this yakitori restaurant in Namba, Osaka. This is a very busy restaurant, and customers are both locals and tourists (currently 4.1 stars after 372 reviews). I think this shot works because it’s an exterior shot, at an interesting angle, at night with the lights on and has clear signage.
Photo 2 – Mary Booth Lookout Reserve (266,274 views in 1 year): This is an exterior shot of Australia’s iconic harbour bridge taken from the park which overlooks the harbour, in Sydney, Australia (currently 4.7 stars after 462 reviews). I think this shot works because it includes the iconic landmark view, whilst also showcasing the grass and seating of the park, on a spectacular day; it really pops!
Photo 3 – ノア (or Noa coffee shop) (182,934 views in 9 months): This is an interior shot of a quaint little coffee shop, that is probably only well known and populated by locals (currently 3.8 stars after 23 reviews). I think this shot works because it captures the ambience of the interior, without including any people, and shows you what to expect from a visit!
Photo 4 – Locavore | BGC (149,309 views in 3 months): This is a closeup foodie shot of Lechon Sisig with Oyster from a very popular Filipino fusion cuisine restaurant in BGC, Philippines (currently 4.4 stars after 894 reviews). I think this shot works because it captures a clear closeup view of a signature dish that is mentioned multiple times within the reviews. *This may be a surprise one, because the dish looks to have an interesting texture, as it hasn’t been mixed through yet; this is the dark horse though as it has gained nearly 150K views in around 3 months, the fastest of all the photos.
Photo 5 – Mountain Culture Beer Co (129,303 views in 1 year): This is a closeup of the Nicki OCIPA (7.7% ABV · IPA Milkshake · My Rating on Untappd 4/5) from Mountain Culture Beer Co, which is a popular brewery at the top of the Blue Mountains (currently 4.7 stars after 478 reviews). I think this shot works because it captures a perfect beer pour, and the perfect environment to enjoy it in with blue skies, sunshine and good company.
Photo 6 – Wrixton Park (107,434 views in 1 year): This is a shot of the entrance to Wrixton Park which is located at the bottom of Willoughby Street, Kirribilli (currently 4.3 stars after 6 reviews). I think this shot works because it captures essentially the entire park including signage, seating, grass and view; it’s also only had 6 reviews so the photo probably gets cycled heavily.
That’ll do it for this posting – see you at 5 million!
