Cyberpunk 2077 Easter Egg: Who Killed Captain Greech's Band?

This is a weird little easter egg you come across in Cyberpunk 2077, whilst you are double-jumping your way through Pacifica’s shady built up scaffolding and building areas.

You’ll come upon a scene of a band who’ve suffered a terrible misfortune, whilst setting up for a gig, with the amazing backdrop of Pacifica’s coastline and ferriswheel.

Then, as you spin around, you notice it… the sign… Captain Greech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters.

Clearly the name of the band… but what a goofy name…

Who Are Captain Greech and The Shrimp Shack Shooters?

This is a play on the fictional cover band from the Tom Hank’s movie That Thing You Do!;

The band members are:
Kitty Sixx – a tongue-in-cheek reference to Motley Crue’s bassist Nikki Sixx, and there’s a line about her sending the band broke because she just ordered 3 basses… I wonder if Nikki did something similar during his career?

Lucas Karas – who appears to have been named after a real-life theoretical chemist of the same name, heavily involved in computing data workflows. It explains perfectly why the shard mentions him forcing the band to invest in a hyper-complex “phonic implant”.

Bart von Ochman – The band manager who doesn’t appear to be tied to anyone real or fictional, and who doesn’t even create the usual anagram easter eggs that we expect from games like Cyberpunk (though I am happy to be corrected). This last band member has a shard on him which reads as follows…

One last thing before we get to that shard: if you’re wondering why the sign reads Greech instead of the film’s actual Geech, that’s not a typo. It’s the classic CDPR move, borrow a reference close enough to be recognised, change just enough to keep it legally safe. Same trick they’ve pulled plenty of other places in Night City.

In the film That Thing You Do! they’re actually The Wonders, but by the time they turn up as Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters they’ve kitted themselves out in white navy uniforms, playing beachside gigs for tourists, a nautical-themed novelty act rather than the band that once had a real hit.

Who is Blake Croyle? How Does He Tie Into This

Blake is a high-ranking Animals member and loan shark who is trying to extort Bart and the band for money; Bart clearly isn’t taking it, saying he is protected by the Tygers.

But playing in Pacifica was a mistake, the Animals have made a nest in the Grand Imperial Mall (GIM), and have activity in that area, the Tygers don’t. So Bart ran the risk and he and his band paid for it.

But fear not… Blake also gets his own comeuppance in the gig Shark in the Water one of your favourite fixers, Regina Jones, who oversees Watson enlists you to take out the loan shark on behalf of one of her client’s. Roger Wang had his clinic taken over by Blake in Kabuki and wants it back, and V is the catalyst to make that happen! Bye Bye Blake!

It’s a hop, skip and a jump from the Batty Hotel in Pacifica. Head to Rio Benito Street, double jump up the rocky ledge, and a large collection of power wires leads you to the hidden music gig setup.
